Mary-Jane Evans

The main theme in Mary-Jane's work is the transformation of materials which echo the metaphorical forces, substance and history within the Dorset landscape. Pushing materials to their extremes is central to what she does. Her Welsh roots make her medium, slate, emotionally charged. She uses the kiln as a time machine to scar and erode her pieces, using corrosive materials and porcelain that enable her to capture fragments of time.

Mary-Jane's past experience includes working in ceramic workshops at Shute Farm Studios and Kingswood School,  and during the Big Arts week. She has also worked as a Gallery Assistant for Bettles Gallery.
